Pilates Classes

Pilates, (pronounced puh-LAH-teez) developed in the 1920's by physical trainer, Joseph H. Pilates, is a exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk.

Pilates is more than an exercise however. It's a series of precisely controlled movements designed to engage both mind and body.

The balance between mind and body is meant to promote physical harmony and conditioning for people of all ages. Pilates is an invigorating exercise that leaves you feeling refreshed and in harmony with your body.

Pilates at Fitness First

Pilates is one of the most popular classes offered at Fitness First. As with all group exercise classes, there is never a fee to participate in any of the hundreds of classes offered each week. Just check the schedule for the club of which you are a member and show up at the scheduled time.

Because of the increased notoriety the media has focused on Pilates, today Pilates is more popular than ever before. Fitness First offers dozens of Pilates classes each week at various club locations. All classes are free for members. No need to sign up, just check the schedule or perform a class search, throw on your favorite sweats and show up.

The Pilates classes at Fitness First are based on exercises performed on a mat. The Pilates mat workout is an aerobic routine that stretches and strengthens the entire body. There are moves specifically designed to increase strength and mobility in the upper and lower body, with special emphasis on the arms, legs, buttocks, and abs. The result is a firmer, more sculptured appearance.

Class schedules are updated on the first of each month at 12:01 am EST.
